Rain fades by October, making days crisp under clear skies near Rishikesh. Campfires crackle at night when temperatures dip just enough during winter months. Tucked between rising hills, Shivpuri serves as the go-to spot for adventure seekers. Roughly 16 to 18 kilometers stretch between it and central Rishikesh – think Laxman Jhula or Tapovan.
Almost every activity in Rishikesh goes on all year long. Yet river rafting shuts down in July, August, and part of September because of heavy rains. When the skies clear, rafting picks up again – from October through June. Better conditions show up between October and November, also from February onward until June rolls around.
Start packing soft shirts, sneakers that fit well, and a thin sweater when it’s cold. Bring along your toothbrush, cream for sun protection, glasses for bright days, and pills you take every day. Toss everything into a little bag on your back when walking around town. It helps during walks or stopping at places worth seeing.
A car works best when traveling here. Getting around becomes simpler with a rented scooty or bicycle in Rishikesh. Since Ola and Uber aren’t available at many camp spots, reaching those places by bus gets tricky. Because of poor public transit nearby, having your own ride helps.
Morning arrival lands close to eleven, then a meal kicks off the stay. Tea plus treats arrive as daylight fades, along with firelight and songs before ten. Night brings dinner, warm and ready after dark hours settle in. The following morning opens with breakfast, ending sharply at ten when leaving time comes.
Right by the river, most tents sit without private toilets nearby. Instead, rooms with their own bathrooms stand just off the shore. To get both comfort and views, pick spots within walking distance of the water and pale sands.
Families find calm in camps built with safety first – music fades early, restrooms stay tidy, nature wraps around quietly. Some spots include cottages when more space or quiet matters.
